Many people will be virtually connecting with family for Thanksgiving this year, which can leave us feeling a little disappointed. You might worry about it not feeling the same, but even though we are not physically together, there is no need to forgo that much-anticipated connection! There are plenty of ways to have fun together that don’t require your in-person presence. Here are some of our favorites:

  1. Virtual Games
Share laughs and feel together again by playing games that will be sure to bring smiles, and are just as easy via video chat! Send movie, book, and TV show ideas into one family member, then divide into teams for Charades. Or have everyone grab some paper to play a fun game of Pictionary- everyone will get into the competition! Another way to foster excitement is to play trivia about topics your family loves- you can play individually or have a private chat in teams.
  2. Cook Together
There’s no reason not to turn on the video chat while you’re preparing your individual meals- it will feel more like you are taking on the kitchen tasks together. You can even cook the same side dishes at the same time for a more coordinated day. Share tips and tricks just as you do when you’re together in person!
  3. Drop Off Goodies
If you live in the same town as your relatives, but aren’t able to spend time together due to Covid, you can drop off food items or presents to each other’s doorsteps. Make everyone feel extra special by sharing your cooking, baking, or crafting prowess. You can even mail baked goods to far-away relatives.
  4. Slideshow of Pictures
Re-live the best times together, and make plans for next year, by sharing some fun memories with your loved ones. Include some funny shots, some sentimental moments, and plenty of smiling faces. You can surprise your family by sharing your screen and making everyone smile. Chances are they will all want a copy of your sweet compilation.
  5. Dance Party
Have one person at a time turn on a beloved song, and dance your hearts out together! You might even find yourself feeling a little braver in the comfort of your own living room, and willing to jump in with both your dancing feet.

Even though it feels a little different this year, you can still have a great time and enjoy that special holiday feeling with those you love. We wish you all a very safe, healthy, and happy Thanksgiving!
